"The ancient Romans called the hottest, most humid days of summer “diēs caniculārēs" or “dog days." The name came about because they associated the hottest days of summer with the star Sirius. Sirius was known as the “Dog Star" because it was the brightest star in the constellation Canis Major (Large Dog). Sirius also happens to be the brightest star in the night sky…The Old Farmer's Almanac lists the traditional timing of the dog days of summer as being July 3 until August 11."

New Puppies
The news many readers have been waiting for! The puppies have been born! Duncan and Maggie's litter was born on July 26, and Josh and Luna's litter was born on July 29. In both cases, I was basically up all night and wishing things would hurry along. Here are pictures of the 10-day old Duncan and Maggie kids.

A note to those of you on the waiting list: I have told you that the list is long, and it is. I am in the process of contacting those on the list in the order in which they appear on the list (i.e., in the order in which they contacted me). Some people have not yet responded and if I do not hear from them soon, I will keep moving down the list. Some have indicated that they want only a specific color that these litters do not have. Some have found puppies from other breeders. If you want to contact me to see where you are on the list, please feel free to do so. The majority of people on the list want females, so those of you farther down the list who want boys were already contacted. At the present time, all but one male has been reserved.
In other puppy news, signs are favorable that Breaker and Windy's litter will be born around August 26, so there is hope for some of you who want puppies and are farther down on the list. I'll keep everyone posted via email. One person found my message in her spam folder so if you are waiting to hear from me, check your spam folders. It might also help if you added joyslynslhasas@outlook.com to your address book. Both Breaker and Windy are excellent producers and are now eligible for their Register of Merit Awards from the American Lhasa Apso Club.

When I last posted, we were getting ready for the dog show that was being held here in Macomb. Although the weather was beastly hot, we had a great turn out of exhibitors, spectators, and vendors. For the first time collaboration among the city, the university, and the Burlington Kennel Club, things went very smoothly. Naturally, there's a list of things we will work on for next year, but I think that is always true of any big endeavor. The Joyslyn's dogs did well. The surprise of the weekend for us was that not only did Greta finally get her tail up but she also was awarded Winners Bitch for a 3 point major. Jenna took Reserve to Greta on Saturday. On Sunday Greta took Reserve. Jenna had to go back in the ring with another person on Sunday, someone she did not know, and she was frightened and would not walk. Josh did well also. He took Best Opposite Sex both days, Best of Breed Owner Handled, and then an Owner Handled Group 4 on Saturday and Group 3 on Sunday.
A puppy (Misti) I co-bred and co-own with LaVonne Bennett won a 5-point major in West Bend over the July 4 weekend. LaVonne sent me a photo to share.

Show Sight magazine featured the Lhasa Apso in its July 2016, Vol. 23 #12, issue on pages 298-312. You can view the issue online at http://www.showsightmagazine.com/#!digital-issue/cf4j Click the link. When the online magazine comes up (give it time to load) there will be a table of contents icon on the menu to the left. When you click it, the TOC appears; scroll down at bit and you will see "Lhasa Apso" and the page number 299. There is an option to turn pages into a pdf file, which is what I did for pages 299-312 as the range. I think it's easier to read that way. It can also be printed. Now I have the Lhasa feature as a pdf so I can keep it with all the other Lhasa articles I've hung on to over the years. Some Photos and Notes from Others
Reports of Duncan in his new home are positive! Kristi has two Lhasa males. The younger of the two is Vader, a Joyslyn's Lhasa. She recently added Duncan (three year old Ch. Joyslyn's Highly Classified) to her Lhasa family. She wrote about Duncan that his house training is nearly done and that he and Tricki "decided to be good friends." She added, "…It is funny he [Duncan] is the oldest of the 3 but acts like the youngest. He wants to play all the time. And will bark at the 2 boys if they are being lazy. I think he loves his new home and I am so privileged that you allowed him to join our 'pack.'"It appears that Duncan is relaxed and comfy in his new home and has been rubbing himself all over the sofa!
Kathy and Marilyn recently got together with their Joyslyn Lhasas for a play date. Marilyn reported that the girls enjoy being with each other and play, play, play.
