Happy Halloween!
As I sit down to write the blog for this month, I realize how quickly the October days have gone by. It has been a busy month. For some reason I ended up with a month of appointments: hair, dentist, eye --and joy of joys the appointment no one looks forward to--a colonoscopy.
In the midst of all that, I prepared for the American Lhasa Apso Club's National Specialty show held again this year in Wilmington, OH. As the Judges' Education Chairperson, I was responsible, along with our club president, for giving the seminar, something I have done for many years. The seminar lasts 3 hours and consists of a slide presentation and discussion, followed by a "hands on" session and discussion.
If you are interested in seeing the seminar slides, go to https://lhasaapso.org/judges-study-guide/
and use the arrows on either side of the photos to move forward or backward through the slides.
The National was fun, as usual. People come from all parts of the country and it is good to see friends in person and to meet newcomers to the club.
I hesitated about taking a dog to show but decided to take Deacon. He was not happy in the ring--uncomfortable and ultra alert. It was a "sensory overload" situation for him when he got into the ring with many other dogs. So I did not show him on the last day. We were both happy by that decision.
Oh, and the good news is that Deacon is now a Grand Champion! I was pleasantly surprised when I found out because I thought he had a few more points to win. Guess I was wrong! So he is now BISS GCH CH Joyslyn's Legacy Of The Wind.
These were taken of him at the National:
Notes and Photos
David wrote this about Callie: She was very excited when she figured out how to get on the couch. I couldn’t keep her hair long. She looks good with a puppy cut.
Lynn sent this photo of the lovely Autumn and remarked on how much Emmy looks like her mom.
Elaine sent this of Athena retrieving her toys from the washer. She is protective of her toys so Elaine has to be quick about getting them into the laundry.
Kim sent photos of Finn. Here are a couple of my favorites.
The Fishers sent this of Niall
Judy L sent this of Eddie
Nanda sent this of Ty and Gigi waiting for dinner.
Article of Interest
I found the following article in the July 1980 issue of the Lhasa Tales magizine.
If you have trouble reading it, just click on the article and you should be taken to a page that shows up better.

From The Archives
This month I am featuring a dog I loved who absolutely did not want to be a show dog. He happened to be a young puppy just as Covid hit. Like so many others -- dogs and kids alike--Archie never had a chance to be socialized. And, when the time came and restrictions were lifted, Archie had no desire to go to shows, walk around a ring, and let strangers touch him. I tried everything I could think of but he was not happy at dog shows. So I decided to place him in a home where he did not have to worry about the noises and stress of dog shows. The last time his new owners sent a photo--and it has been a while--he was watching his owner's grandkids playing a board game on the floor.
Here, from the archives, is Archie (AKA Joyslyn's Derecho).
Emmy Update
Our Emmy is still waiting for a new home. Here is a reminder about her.
If you call and are directed to "'leave a message," please do. If we are home, we will pick up when you speak. If we are not home, we will call you back as soon as we can. We are getting 10 or more calls a day about Medicare, home and car warranties, and announcements that we have won some contest we never entered! It is so annoying! So please leave a message!
Happy Halloween!
Until November then...
Joyce
